Central Reserve Police Force

Central Reserve Police Force also known as the CRPF have truly lived their motto of ‘Service and Loyalty’ since the time of its inception in 1939. Proclaimed as the most experienced armed police force of the country, CRPF has been functioning under the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of India. Be it in internal emergencies, riots, natural calamities etc, Central Reserve Police Force has worked tirelessly in protecting the innocent civilians of the country.

Thinking what is the work of a CRPF personnel like? In the natural calamity that struck Uttaranchal in 2013, where floods completely devastated the habitat around, CRPF personnel immediately came to the rescue of local community. In a situation of riot, natural calamities, political rallies etc, when the situation seems to move out of the control of local authorities and police force, the CRPF personnel come into action. Apart from undertaking the relief and rescue work, Central Reserve Police Force also assists the local police in emergencies to maintain internal security and ensure that law and order is followed. CRPF also undertakes counter insurgency and terrorism operations.

Different agencies/organizations conduct different set of written exams for different divisions of paramilitary forces. UPSC conducts a written exam for the post of Assistant Commandant (Group A) in Central Police Force (CPF) viz. BSF,CRPF,CISF,ITBP and SSB. This written exam conducted by UPSC is divided into two sections. The first section comprise questions from the area of General Ability and Reasoning where as the second section is geared to test the English language ability of the applicants. After this written exam, all the candidates who successfully clear the written exam appear for a physical efficiency and medical test.

Just as UPSC conducts a written exam for CPF for the post of Assistant Commandant (Group A), in the same manner Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts a written examination for Sub-inspectors in BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP and SSB. The written exam conducted by SSC assesses the candidate’s ability in areas as diverse as General knowledge, reasoning, numerical ability, language ability etc. After clearing this written exam, the successful candidates have to then appear for a personality test and interview.

Career Opportunities

The entire CRPF workforce is divided in to two segments i.e. combat and non combat officers. The combat personnel are basically the ones who are armed with various fighting equipments and they do all the action. They are the ones who are involved in first hand killing of enemies, safeguarding the borders and controlling infiltration of enemies. These combatant forces are further divided into Group A gazatted officers ranging from the position of Assistant Commandant to Director General. The Group B Non-Gazetted combative staff includes personnel ranking from constable to Subedar. The non combat group of the CRPF includes officers who join various other departments as administrative and hospital staff.

Remuneration

Aspirants who join CRPF as Assistant Commandant fall under a Pay Band of 15600-39100. With experience CRPF personnel get the opportunity to gain promotion to the position of Assistant Commandant to Deputy Commandant, Second-in-Command, Comman-dant, Additional Deputy Inspector General, Deputy Inspector General, Inspector General, Additional Director General and finally Director General. Apart from the salaries, CRPF officers enjoy various allowances and additional facilities such as DA, Insurance, free ration etc.
